yesterdays shit was outrageous, i apologize . but i do understand things a little better now .

A hijab or ḥijāb (حجاب, pronounced [ħiˈdʒæːb]), as commonly understood in the English-speaking world, is the type of head covering traditionally worn by Muslim women, but can also refer to modest Muslim styles of dress in general. Similar head coverings (Wimple or Wimpel) are also worn by traditional orthodox Christian and Jewish women [1]. The Arabic word literally means curtain or cover (noun), based on the root حجب meaning "to cover, to veil, to shelter". Most Islamic legal systems define this type of modest dressing as covering everything except the face and hands in public.[2][3] According to Islamic scholarship, hijab is given the wider meaning of modesty, privacy, and morality;[4] the word for a headscarf or veil used in the Koran is khimār (خمار) and not hijab. Still another definition is metaphysical, where al-hijab "refers to the veil which separates man or the world from God."[3]

dude from bg on veils in islam ( hehehe ? ) [15 Dec 2009|07:43pm]
heylight
me:  ok so i have to tell u this
know how when u see a woman with a veil
here in the usa most peeps think of like 'oppression' ?
 pastelplaid:  yeah
me:  rumi keeps writing all these poems
and he talks about like, the illusory nature of the physical, sensible world
like form vs essense
essence
the analogy he uses
is a veil
like, theres a veil in this 'physical realm'
that hides from us the TRuth
the beauty of the unity, wahtever u want to call it
allah, god, whatever
brahman
he uses that SYMBOLISM in his poems
to talk about the real True Beauty beyond this world ,
beauty tahts like god, that you cant explain you cant measure u cant define and u cant really talk about
so the more i think about muslim womens dress
the more i see it as a symbolism
the veil symbolizes the illusory nature ofthe physical world
so UNDER THE VEIL
IS THE TRUTH
immeasureable beauty
pastelplaid:  but they arent ALLOWED to show their self, rite/
me:  they choose not to .
at least some of them,
pastelplaid:  but isnt it islamic law
me:  there are bad muslims just like there are bad americans
maybe so, im not sure, probably so
but just cause its law doesnt mean its oppressive ?
and jsut cause its law doesnt mean its not a good way to approach the world ?
pastelplaid:  well it depends on how the women feel i suppose
 me:  like,
i can totally imagine being of the muslim faith
pastelplaid:  but i know that, that place i want to go in yemen
women arent allowed to go swimming because they cant bare any skin
me:  and having these ingrained concepts of an 'illusory' manifested world
pastelplaid:  i will feel oppressed when i cant go swimming.
me:  and wanting to express it some kind of way
thats just the tradtional way of expressing it
youll feel oppressed by islamic law ?
 pastelplaid:  yeah
me:  the only point im trying to make is that
ISLAMIC women
dont necessarily feel OPPRESSED by this
its part of their faith
and i think
they PROBABLY
see it as a privilege, or a pedestal
like an honorific sort of thing
pastelplaid:  but christians arent suppose to have sex before marriage, but they sure as hell want to, and often do
me:  like, wouldnt u want to be symbolized as TRUE BEAUTY, BEYOND ILLUSION ?
its not really about being like
allowed to do or not do whta you ~want~ to do
pastelplaid:  well sure, but i want to be respected?
me:  its about doing what you feel you OUGHT to do, or expressing your self through symbolic systems that SHOW how you feel things OUGHT to be done
pastelplaid:  i want to be an equal in society, i want to have the same opportunities?
me:  just cause a woman wears a veil doesnt mean she isnt viewed as an equal
another thing ive thought about
recently
is like, feminism
its great
BUT
i think its sometiems misplaced
like, women want privilege and respect and jobs and authority
but the way they envisage it or talk about it is in a masculine way
like, they WANT TO BE MEN
not just respected WOMEN
respected or honored or valued WOMEN
pastelplaid:  nah i dont want to be a man
 me:  feminine beings
pastelplaid:  i like being a woman, i even like having to go through ~monthly~ womanly duties
but i dont want to feel like im being held back at ANYTHING because of that
 me:  yea
i just think that
for us from our perspective
to assume that a veiled woman is oppressed
is ignorant
and disrespectful
Sent at 7:26 PM on Tuesday
pastelplaid:  but to assume that they love to be veiled is equally ignorant? i know a lot of them want to respect their religion and everything. and thats wonderful. but if they had a choice, if it wasnt a rule in their religion, i would bet that they would want to feel the sun and wind against their bare skin
me:  the veil doesnt really have anythign to do with it
the veil is a symbol of their religious belief
if theyre really muslims
and have an understanding of their holy book
and holy word and traditions and customs
the veil is a privilege
wouldnt u want to be symbolized as TRUTH AND BEAUTY BEYOND MEASURE ?
like the REALITY BEHIND THE VEIL
pastelplaid:  i dont know as much as you do
maybe if i did i would feel differently
me:  im trying to think of a good analogue
pastelplaid:  but rite now, i dont agree
me:  sou dont want to be seen as TRUTH AND BEAUTY BEYOND MEASURE ?
u dont want dudes to treat you like that ?
 pastelplaid:  NO~
 me:  i think
 pastelplaid:  sure i do dude
me:  wearing veils like that , thats why they do it
pastelplaid:  but thats not equal, is it?
me:  to remind each other over and over
if men and women were equal wed both either have dicks or vags
pastelplaid:  if im truth and beauty, then men are just the same
me:  and that wouldnt get us anywhere
Sent at 7:32 PM on Tuesday
me:  men adn women arent the same , that doesnt mean they dont have the same capacities in their i guess SPIRITUAL aspects
but it means neither is the whole thing
pastelplaid:  but holding one higher than the other? how is that fair?
how is that just?
me:  who said one is higher ?
a veil doesnt mean one is higher .
thats an assumption u bring !
u could also
bring the assumption that cause women are 'veiled beauty'
that THEYRE higher
pastelplaid:  hmf
 me:  i knwo that
when people talk about these things
its very testy sort of stuff
like
its really easy to say thing s that seem to place men above women or women above men
and
i recognize that
historically
traditionally even
women HAVE been placed beneath men
i just think that in older religions and things, sometimes its difficult to say that men and women are like
two halves of the yin-yang
that are dependent upon each other
neither is greater nor lesser
but they arent the same
its hard to say that
i mean,
somebody like me,
shit
i WORSHIP ladies
im a piece of shit in comparison
u wont see me nursin no child for 9 months +
 pastelplaid:  haha
 me:  i just think that
cause im really digging the islamic faith
that im finding the symbolisms in their culture more beautiful than i did before
not to say that EVEYRONE should feel that way
its just, i could see why theyd behave that way and feel that way
it makes sense to me and i like it
pastelplaid:  r u gunna make your wife stay covered from head to toe
 me:  'make'
no
but if she wants to ill think its so great !!!!!!!
pastelplaid:  and what if she doesnt
me:  she can dow ahtever she wants
pastelplaid:  will you think its 'so great !!!!!!!'
 me:  yes.
 pastelplaid:  mmhm.
 me:  its just a symbol
the idea stays the same
thats what i get to take with me now
veil or no veil, a different understanding of ~woman~

this is what astrology is [13 Dec 2009|12:31am]
heylight
* History is astrologically understood by looking at aspects and ingresses of planets, and by gaining an understanding of what these imply, through observation of what has actually occurred in the past, plus astrological inference. Astrological theory, as it has evolved over the millennia, gives some insight into what might be expected to develop at any time of history, through examining the component parts of the astrological situation at the time. These components are: 1. the positions of the planets in the signs; 2. the energy-characteristics of any planets interacting with each other in aspect; 3. the qualities of the aspect(s) concerned and, 4. the stage on the unfolding cycle of aspects between those planets (particularly whether the cycles are waxing or waning).

* There is never a deterministic, mechanical influence or effect of any astrological events and phenomena in history – just as there is never a way of predicting how people will respond to rain or sunshine, even though certain modes of behaviour might be expected on the basis of past experience. Planetary motions set up subtle resonance-fields in time, offering, at any moment, specific opportunities, modes and parameters of thought, feeling and action. What humans actually do in relation to such energy-vibrations is entirely our choice, whether made consciously or unconsciously, and a range of responses is possible at any one time – often highly influenced by individuals or groupings in society who possess the position or power to decide, embody and enact such things. These are not always official power-holders. Since we humans do tend to make our choices on the basis of past experience, and since we tend habitually not to consider and enact our full range of options (out of fear, ignorance, powerlessness, habit, or attachment or aversion to past events and strategies), much of our response to history's situations can indeed be rather mechanical and predictable, though they do not have to be so, and humanity periodically strikes out on a new trajectory. We have an unfortunate habit of creating war at times when forward-evolutionary possibilities become available, as if to try to resort ot default patterns, block change or, alternatively, create havoc and a suspension of normal, sensible social rules, within which change can occur. Yet human free-will is the hidden 'Factor-X' in history, adding an ingredient of deeper psychology to all historical developments. Human fascination, accident and adventurousness can be critical factors at times. Astrology is a wonderful means for penetrating into the deeper aspect of human motivation, imagination and creativity, however it is polarised.
